About

me

Born and raised in India, I came to Canada in 2014 to pursue my studies. Completing the Interior Design Technology Program at George Brown College provided me with a comprehensive understanding of interior design, laying the groundwork for my professional endeavors.

For the past five years, I have served as a Junior Designer at Napa Valley Kitchen, gaining invaluable experience and honing my skills. Working on numerous projects in this dynamic environment has further developed my expertise in creating functional and visually captivating designs. I continue to excel in my role at Napa Valley Kitchen while actively seeking opportunities to expand my knowledge and skills.

Recently, I achieved a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design from Yorkville University, solidifying my educational background and enhancing my understanding of design principles. My ultimate goal is to establish myself as a successful Interior Designer, leveraging my educational foundation, practical experience, and innate creativity. I am eagerly seeking opportunities to showcase my abilities in creating harmonious spaces that blend functionality and aesthetics. With a solid educational background and excellent communication skills, I am confident in collaborating effectively with clients, colleagues, and stakeholders to transform their visions into extraordinary designs.

Seva aNIMAL

sHELTER

"Seva," derived from Sanskrit, embodies the concept of selfless service, which is a vital aspect of spiritual practice. This thesis project focuses on the Civic Centre Resource Library in Vaughan." which serves as an animal shelter aimed at assisting those in need. The facility helps clean the streets by providing a haven for abandoned puppies, mistreated cats, and lost pets. However, it also recognizes that animals, like humans, can experience trauma or depression. Taking inspiration from the movie "Zootopia," the primary objective of this project is to adopt a philosophical approach to animal psychology. The underlying philosophy behind this program is centered on the belief that animals have rights and deserve to live according to their wishes, free from human constraints.

Autonomy, or self-government, is a crucial aspect of animal rights and is synonymous with choice.

The ultimate goal is to create a world where our beloved four-legged companions feel secure and comfortable. Additionally, the project aims to design a facility that promotes harmonious coexistence between animals and humans. Educational elements will be integrated into the project, such as a theatre, lecture rooms, and a library, enhancing the resources available to animals and humans.

Narrative:

For the Cafeteria, I have selected natural hardwood tiles for the flooring, accented with a custom-designed booth seating in warm, earthy tones. The walls are painted with a low-VOC paint in a creamy white, providing a neutral backdrop for the artwork and the decorative lighting fixtures. The furniture selection includes a mix of contemporary and vintage pieces, upholstered in sustainable fabrics, and finished with organic wood tones.

Performance hall: The performance hall is an essential aspect of the shelter, as it would be used for events and fundraisers to support the animals. However, the area was open to the sky above, and winters in the area are particularly harsh. That been said, I decided on concrete flooring as it is sturdy enough to withstand extreme temperatures, making it an ideal choice for the performance hall. In addition, the combination of waterproof wood tiles integrated within the steps is perfect for the pets during the summer months. The surfaces of these materials tend to heat up less in the sun, ensuring the animals remained cool and comfortable during their stay.

The Retail Store is a flexible and dynamic environment that caters to a diverse range of users. To create a functional and inclusive space, I have selected a durable, low-maintenance flooring material with a subtle texture that provides a visual interest. The walls are painted in a creamy white (same as cafeteria), providing a calming and neutral background that allows the furniture and artwork to stand out.

Narrative:

The library is a relaxing space that offers a break from work. I chose durable flooring with a subtle texture. The walls are a calming white, allowing furniture and artwork to stand out. Furniture includes high seating and adjustable desks for different users. The lounge is cozy with warm hardwood flooring. Walls are a deep creamy white, complementing the artwork and lighting. Furniture options include custom seating with soft, sustainable fabrics and natural wood tones.

Walkways are important for user experience. Restrooms have slip-resistant tile flooring and soft, pale blue walls. Energy-efficient lighting provides ample illumination. Restroom fixtures are ADA-compliant and finished in brushed nickel for a modern look. Artwork and accessories blend historical context with contemporary design, creating a comfortable space for all users. I adopted a minimalistic approach to colors, considering animals' limited color perception. The finishes and selections represent the color palette of a dog or a cat.
